History of Excellence

Since the establishment of Trafton & Scales in 1950 by Willis A. Trafton, Jr. and L. Damon Scales, Jr., the firm has maintained a general practice with an emphasis on personal injury, criminal defense, family matters, commercial, corporate, zoning and land use, administrative, real estate and probate matters. The firm represents small businesses, individuals, corporations and commercial lenders throughout the State of Maine. Throughout its history, the members of the firm have been involved with the community serving on local boards of directors, City Council, the State Legislature and Mayor of Auburn.

Trafton & Matzen has served the legal needs of Maine for over 50 years from its home communities of Lewiston-Auburn. The twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn constitute the second largest metropolitan area in Maine with a combined population of nearly 60,000. Auburn is the county seat of Androscoggin County. The area has four colleges, Kaplan University, Lewiston-Auburn College (a branch of the University of Southern Maine), Central Maine Community College, and Bates College. Using the water power generated by the Androscoggin River which runs through Lewiston-Auburn, Lewiston historically was a thriving textile manufacturer with such companies as the manufacturer of the famous Bates bedspreads. Auburn was equally renowned as a shoe manufacturing community. Although Lewiston-Auburn remains the manufacturing center of Maine, the economy is diverse, and serves as the commercial and retail center for central Maine and the gateway to the western Maine vacation attractions.
