Trafton & Matzen has served the legal needs of Maine for over 50 years from its home communities of Lewiston-Auburn. The twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn constitute the second largest metropolitan area in Maine with a combined population of nearly 60,000. Auburn is the county seat of Androscoggin County. The area has four colleges, Andover College, Lewiston-Auburn College (a branch of the University of Southern Maine), Central Maine Community College, and Bates College. Using the water power generated by the Androscoggin River which runs through Lewiston-Auburn, Lewiston historically was a thriving textile manufacturer with such companies as the manufacturer of the famous Bates bedspreads. Auburn was equally renowned as a shoe manufacturing community. Although Lewiston-Auburn remains the manufacturing center of Maine, the economy is diverse, and serves as the commercial and retail center for central Maine and the gateway to the western Maine vacation attractions.
